The Choice


Soon to be a product of divorced parents, he was asked to make a choice.

“Whom would like to stay with, son?”

He looked at the mother and remembered the times he was reprimanded and not allowed to do the things his heart desired.

He looked at the father and the umpteen gifts he was showered with, and how much happiness it gave him, flashed before his eyes.

“My father”, he declared, not knowing the consequences.

Many years later, finding himself at the same spot and with someone else he cared deeply about facing the same question, he said, “Let my son stay with his mother.”
