Shades of Human by Rohit Bhatia

Blurb (as on Amazon):

Was poetry ever in the words?
Poetry is found in between the words.
In the silences…the pauses.

Poetry has always been the most elegant way to express deeply felt feelings. It is always fascinating to see how intricately the words, rhyme, rhythm, and sounds flow in poetry, making it magical. “Shades of Human” is a poetry collection in which the author attempts to convey numerous emotions and feelings that humans endure in their journey of life. Every emotion is magnificent, and each one has its own meaning within the spectrum; be them as dreaded as hatred, anger, envy, or as soft as joy, pride, or bliss. While you read the book, you will come across 24 poems that will take you on a roller-coaster ride of ardor, vehemence, fervor, and sentiments. “Shades of Human” will inspire you to become a human sponge in a sea of emotions. Love, hate, empathy, sorrow, ecstasy, envy, lust, anything — every emotion demonstrates you are alive, absorbing, and reacting to this enormous, perplexing, chaotic world in your own unique manner.

Genre: Fiction/Poetry

Pages: 41

Format: Kindle eBook

My Rating: 4/5

A compilation of 24 poems, this book beautifully talks about emotions resulting from heartbreak.

What I liked about the book:

-> It’s a short read of less than an hour.
-> The poems don’t just about love between partners, the poet has also depicted son-mother, love between friends, and other interpersonal relationships.
-> The honest effort to communicate strong emotions using ordinary circumstances adds authenticity to the poems and words.

What I did not like about the book:

-> The poems tend to focus only on heartbreak and I felt some optimism might have helped break the monotonous reading.

Quotable quotes:

-> As if poetry is in the words?
Poetry is found in between the words.

In the silences… the pauses.
-> Every emotion is magnificent, and each one has its own meaning within the spectrum; be them as dreaded as hatred, anger, envy or as soft as joy, pride or bliss.
-> We may not stay the same tomorrow
But
Tomorrow my dear,
These moments will be remembered.
The moments of love, Moments of our laugh,
Moments we shared, Moments we cared so much.
-> Their eyes stare at you
As if you stole something precious and
left no clue
Sky and Earth they make one
To keep your image unknown
Your smile, your tears are nothing to them
Their sympathy is only for fame.
->If you’re single, you must mingle.
You marry, they go.
Hey!”When do we see a little fairy?”
You are fit; they want you to be fat.
You’re this, they want you that.
->Nobody can stop me from flying at a height,
Till I believe in myself.
